Digital Scanning

3D Digital Scanning

 – SCAN – UPLOAD – EDIT – PRINT – PRESERVE –

3D Scanning is a service we offer to create an accurate digital file of any physical object. This allows you to skip the traditional process of scaling your sculpture to another size, for an automated process. Once the scanned file is created, it can be edited if changes are requested, or prepared to be moved onto our mill for reduction, enlargement, or replication.

3D Scanning is a process that allows you to potentially unlock or expand into a level of your work that you never thought would be possible and promptly.

Frequently Asked Questions about 3D Scanning

How does 3D Scanning work?

3D scanning uses advanced white light technology to capture and documents millions of data points every second, which will become a digital map. To be technical, the scanner creates a polygon mesh or point cloud of geometric areas on the surface of your sculpture to properly map it out.

What can be scanned?

You can scan almost any kind of physical object.

Does my file have to stay the exact same once my piece is scanned?

Once a scanned file is complete it can be edited. If you desired to, we can edit the file to have parts cut, moved, smoothed, etc.

How long will it take to scan my piece?

Most of the time the file is created in one scan, though it may take longer depending on the sculpture. Factors such as color, texture, lightness, and crevices may create the need to do multiple scans. With that being said, all of the scanned data will become merged into a seamless digital file, a complex sculpture may just take longer. Ultimately, there are many variables that will affect the length of time to produce a complete scan of your sculpture. There is no definitive answer without seeing the sculpture.
