– BRONZE CASTING PROCESS QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS –

American Bronze Foundry has received many questions about various aspects of the bronze sculpture casting process and things related to bronze. Here is a list of frequently asked questions and their answers. If you have a question that is not answered here, please send us an email or give us a call and we’ll get an answer for you.

Q: Do I have to be a sculptor to have a custom bronze sculpture made?

A: No, you don’t even have to be an artist. American Bronze Foundry’s project consultants, design department, and in-house sculptors will collaborate to bring your idea, concept, or vision to life regardless of whether you are a sculptor or not.  (Sculpting Services)

Q: Do I have to have a clay or wax sculpture in order to have a mold made to cast a bronze sculpture?

A: Absolutely not! A mold can be made from just about anything. Bring us just about any object and we’ll make a mold from it to cast a bronze version of it that will last many generations to come.

Q: I want to have a pair of my baby’s shoes bronzed, do you offer that service?

A: Not exactly. The difference between bronzing and cast bronze is vast. The bronzing of baby shoes is where you send off the shoes then they are dipped and coated with various chemicals to achieve a bronze-like appearance and the original shoes are forever encased in that shell.

What we do here at American Bronze Foundry is we make a mold from the original shoes and then cast a duplicate pair in bronze, therefore, retaining the original shoes that are then accompanied by a museum-quality fine art bronze sculpture that will last many lifetimes to come making them a perfect heirloom. Q: I have a photograph of someone and would like a sculpture made of them. Is that even possible?

A: It certainly is! We have had numerous projects based on photographs, sketches, and illustrations — and each customer was extremely pleased with the final outcome. If you haven’t already, please take a look at our portfolio section to view some of our past works. (Examples of custom portraits) (Sculpting Services)

Q: Do you have custom bases available?

A: Yes. We offer a wide variety of granite, marble, a wood bases to compliment your sculpture that is hand-crafted by our skilled artisans.  Although these are available, having a base is not always necessary as it is cast into the bronze itself or is being placed elsewhere in a specific location such as a courtyard.
